Rinat Expansion Update 9 - January 28, 2010

As the building takes shape, it is hard not to be excited about the reality of our plans coming to fruition. Since our last update the building process has accelerated, and progress is apparent throughout the building site. The exterior of the new sanctuary has been enclosed, the full excavation has been completed, and the remaining cement for the social hall (the floor and the parking deck) will be poured by the first week of February. On the inside, much of the HVAC ductwork has been installed. Electrical and plumbing rough-in work has begun, ceiling framing is well underway, and on the lower level wall studs have been partially installed, providing a glimpse at how the final layout will appear. For those that have been inside the construction site, seeing the size and layout of the new sanctuary and public spaces has been both gratifying and eye-opening - the new sanctuary will be a truly inspiring venue for our tefillot, and our kehillawill have a facility that will serve us well for many years to come.

Over the next few weeks, the other trades will begin their work - primarily wiring to start with, and windows, skylights, and sheetrock will begin to be installed. Our ritual items (mechitza, aron, and bima) and main sanctuary seating have all been shipped from Israel, and other system connections (electrical, sewage, and plumbing) will be finalized. The seats for the old sanctuary and social hall have been selected, and contracts have been awarded for low-voltage systems (alarm, surveillance, telephone, and audio/visual systems).

While we have had some weather-related delays, we are still on schedule for a March transition to the new section of the building - as is standard practice, some "weather days" were built into the schedule. A committee, chaired by VV Ramras and Debbie Golubtchik, has begun making plans for a festive celebration to dedicate our new facility before Pesach. We look forward to sharing more information about this in the near future. For any building-related questions or concerns, please send an e-mail to expansion [at] rinat [dot] org
