January, as usual, started off strong and ended quietly as we opened the month with youth meals and Melovie Malkas and ended with Yeshiva Break.
Thanks to some great publicity and proactive parents, we can boast that the youth meals had a great turn out. We had more children this year than in any other year that we can remember. Of course, the most important point to emphasize is that everyone had an amazing time. I would like to thank Eli from Kosher Experience for making sure that everything worked out in our kitchen challenged environment. We had hot food, which in our current situation is no small task. I would also like to thank all the great group leaders for their efforts; making the event fun, singing great zemirot and walking the kids home. I would also like to thank the group leaders who were on "kitchen duty" or perhaps I should call it "Adina's Office Duty" for all their hard work. Thank you to Adina and Rackel for sharing their workspace with us.
That evening, after Shabbat, we had a Melovie Malka for second through sixth grade. I would like to thank all the group leaders who helped me move my bar-b-que to the shul backyard. It was really cold out, but the dogs were hot and everyone had a great time. By the way, now that the program is over, I could really use a hand moving it back.
In February we will have our annual snow tubing event. I am happy to report that we always have an incredible response to this fantastic event. We sold out our slots in under three days and we will be taking 36 children on Motzei Shabbat, February 20th. We will also close the month with Purim and our traditional Purim Night Extravaganza. Please bring your kids to shul, in costume, and send them downstairs for an amazing youth program while you hear megilah reading upstairs. As usual, we will have a megillah reading immediately following the program for group leaders and for parents who were unable to leave their children alone.
Looking into the future, we will be having a special Chanukat Habayit youth event on Sunday, March 14th for all children from nursery through third grade. Of course, even further into the future, we will be welcoming back the LEGO MAN on May 16th for a Yom Yerushalayim event. This event will be a truly amazing experience for the entire family and for people of all ages. Join us as we build the Old City of Yerushalyim out of LEGO.
We are happy to report that groups have been running smoothly and we are happy to see many new children attending groups for the first time. If you have have questions or concerns we can be contacted at DMTollinsky [at] gmail [dot] com. For those who are wondering, the Youth Committee and the Rinat Board of Directors are currently investigating and considering alternatives for the Youth Program during Phase 2 of construction, which is quickly approaching. More information to follow as it becomes available.
