How-to: Social networking the Rinat.org way

Posted on November 25th, 2009 by GlenMarianko.

Rinat.org is a social network developed to service the Rinat Yisrael member community.

A social network service focuses on building online communities of people who share interests and/or activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others. Most social network services are web based and provide a variety of ways for users to interact, such as e-mail and instant messaging services.

Social networking has encouraged new ways to communicate and share information. Social networking websites are being used regularly by millions of people. -- Wikipedia

This website was designed to support the needs of our modern, socially connected membership. We wanted Rinat.org to be more than a place to download a schedule once a week or receive a one-way communication, and allow for greater communication flexibility to our membership as well as ad-hoc, among individual members of the Rinat community.

Our online community is designed to allow for interaction between members within a semi-constrained social environment (i.e. the website controls the circumstances by which members of the network interact). Right now, most interaction is at the behest of individual committee chairpersons and board members, and limited to posting of comments where indicated. All comments are posted and attributed to the member who posted the information.

We ask that our website users respect each other, our community and our shul in all our postings.

The site management reserves the right to delete any post that is out of place or offensive and block the access of members who have submitted one or more inappropriate posts.

Once logged in using a username assigned to them, members and affiliate members are able to contact each other through the website or through the information provided by a member's account. Certain information can be disabled from view -- please visit your My account page and click edit to view the information that will be provided to other members.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact me personally or any other members of the committee.
