ג' מתנות נתן הקב"ה לישראל – רחמנים, בישנים, גומלי חסדים, מדרש רבה, נשא פ"ח

Shlomit is a village in southern Israel. Located in the Negev desert, around 700 meters from the Egyptian border, it falls under the jurisdiction of Eshkol Regional Council. Shlomit is home to 82 families. 72 families were brought to Kfar Etzion after the Hamas attacks on October 7. In partnership with the Gush Etzion Foundation, Rinat will be providing the things these families need to start again.

Shlomit on October 7:
As terrorists infiltrated Southern Israel, sirens blared, and the residents of Shlomit heard gunshots drawing nearer. They learned that the neighboring kibbutz, Prigan, was under attack and concerned residents from Shlomit urgently contacted the army for assistance. Seven brave members of Shlomit's first response team immediately rushed to aid their neighboring community, engaging in a fierce battle against terrorists for over two gruelling hours. While trying to rescue a trapped family, two members of the first response team lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries. On their way back to Shlomit, two members of the Shlomit first response team were ambushed and tragically killed by terrorists. The rest of the community members spent hours in safe rooms, terrified as they heard the battle around them and received WhatsApp messages detailing the horrifying battle taking place nearby.

What is needed

• Clothing and shoes - Although there has been a generous amount of donated clothing, many families have specific items they still require.

• Warm clothing - Shlomit has a milder climate and its resident don't have winter wear. However, Kfar Etzion can become quite cold during the winter.

• Hygiene items - While many have been donated, there is still a need for certain essential hygiene products, and some items already need to be replenished.

• Closets and bins for organizing items – The families are staying in hostels that are not designed for families with 5+ people for extended periods, and additional storage solutions are needed.

• Games, toys, books, and art supplies for children - These items will help engage the children and provide some sense of normalcy during this challenging time.

• Therapists - Initially, many volunteers offered their services, but as time passes, it's important to ensure that these families have professional therapists who can provide support to the families.

• Gas-the families are slowly trying to venture out to visit family to feel support or local parks to try and relax which is very important for their mental well-being.

• Religious items-siddurim and some sefarim for learning.
