"God’s Wrath Upon Wood and Stone - and the Mysterious Figure of Hiram, King of Tyre"  
We are told by the Midrash that by destroying the wood and stone of the Beit Hamikdash, God spared his people. It is actually possible that this Midrash stems from a place of general hostility towards lavish materiality itself. In this lecture, we will analyze the mysterious source of these very building materials for the Beith Hamikdash - the Kingdom of Tyre and its enigmatic King Hiram - through the lens of the Tanach and the Gemara in order to understand this issue.
