Rabbanit Sally Mayer serves as Rosh Midrasha at Midreshet Lindenbaum’s Overseas Program and teaches Talmud, Halakha, Parsha and Jewish Philosophy. Rabbanit Mayer holds a BA from Stern College, an MA in Medieval Jewish History from Yeshiva University, and studied at Drisha Institute in the Scholars Circle Program. Before moving to Israel with her family, she was a member of the core faculty that built Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls, where she chaired the Talmud Department.

Topic: The Ten Commandments – from the Bible to Rembrandt
In a PowerPoint presentation, Prof. Penkower will review the history of depictions of the Tablets of the Covenant and the Ten Commandments inscribed thereon, from the Bible through the Middle Ages, in both Jewish and Christian Art. In two of Rembrandt’s paintings, the last five Commandments can be read clearly. We will discuss the shape of the Two Tablets, the division of the Ten Commandments, the division of the Sections (Parashot) and the Jewish sources upon which these representations are based.
